Present: Ian, Pete (first cave), Ralph

Despite the cold, still winter air, we didn’t change very quickly, and it was a while before we were walking in the direction of the cave. (Al showed us straight to where the hole was.) The entrance is through a large metal door which is required to be locked behind you as you enter, which felt very strange. Ian, who was last in, gave it a nice swing shut and threw the bolt across heavily to let it echo around. Squee-eek, CRASH, bang! Sheer poetry. Anyway, the trip underground was excellent – it was a lovely dry cave needing no gear, no grunting and no cursing. We enjoyed the sights, marvelled at the big canyon and the formations, and generally made our way around in a fitful manner. We explored all the side passages we could, chatting all the time, ending up visiting the majority of the mid-level passages at least once. The climbing of the cascade went without a hitch, and we sat down at the top to eat some homemade flapjack that Ralph had brought, which was yummy. Getting out was fairly quick and we were surprised to find that the night air wasn’t as chilling as we thought it might have been. The three of us agreed on the way back to the hut that Pete’s little motor is quite a Dusa-mobile. Not a great deal of room in the back, though!

Thursday saw us doing two trips, both of which were very enjoyable.
