A return to DUSA’s adopted cave to do some tidying in the entrance pitches.

Spent a good few hours collecting, bagging and hauling rubbish from the shored dig below the third pith, including old digging equipment (tools, buckets, bags, tubing), wooden boards and beams, and four sacks of dead lambs from a few years ago.

Most of our time was occupied with getting the stuff out – in manhandling the stuff up the short rift climbs to the second pitch and hauling up the pitches. We stashed it all at the base of the first pitch and did the same again. Failed to get everything out so there is some stuff at the bottom of the first pitch and some in the shakehole.

Then made a cup of tea on the brim of the shakehole with a housemate’s gas stove. Bliss. Carried three rucksacks full back down to the car and had a pint in the Marton. Bliss.

There’s another easy day hauling and disposing, then work needed on the shoring ladders and re-roping on the fourth and fifth pitches.
