SRT
SRT – Single Rope Technique

What is SRT?
SRT stands for Single Rope Technique, and it is necessary to be able to explore most of the caves in the Yorkshire Dales. As most of these caves have vertical pitches, you need to be able to descend and ascend these pitches using SRT. But don’t worry, we’ll train you up!
You’ll use what’s known as an SRT kit: a harness complete with various bits of rope and metalwork that all play a role in allowing you to move up and down a rope, as well as across obstacles. We’ll teach you everything about what each part of the SRT kit is for, as well as how to use it!

SRT Training
DUSA runs at least a couple of SRT training weekends during Michaelmas term. On these weekends, we’ll train indoors at a facility specifically meant for SRT (typically the SRT Wall at the YSS), and you’ll also have an opportunity to put these skills into practice underground! You’ll be trained by DUSA leaders, and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable with all of the different techniques throughout the weekend.
Besides our SRT weekends, DUSA also runs Bridge Training at Silverlink Bridge in Pelay Woods (close to Gilesgate). At bridge training, you’ll learn the exact same things you would on an SRT weekend, but you’ll need to attend at least a couple of sessions to make sure we’ve covered everything, as these are afternoon sessions and do not involve actually going underground.
