Dinner Meet, The Millennium Edition and Lancaster Hole

Present: Lots of people

Friday started off good. First beer from offie. Al brought along a bottle of Abeince (?) which we almost killed in one night. Were up far too long (~5am) chatting away (oh yes of course drinking as well!). Had a few hours of sleep and got up at 9am for breakfast (mmh nice, some ate with hangover!!). We managed to go down a cave. (at about 1pm (Anthony and Duncun were lazy bastards and kept on drinking dirty water (aka tea))). Finally got to Lancaster Hole and – had to wait 1.5 – 2 hours for 3 slow Newcastle Uni people to get down the simple 30m pitch. Ok. Finally down and did some caving (very wet for Lancs). Got to the second pitch (12m) went down. Then scrambled down some huge boulders under a waterfall (which usually isn’t as strong). Got to the river (which was far too fast flowing and foam from last night was still at the ceiling. So we decided to get out fast just in case….. I did my first derigging (the 12m pitch). Whilst the others took a short climbing exercise. On the way back we took a short detour and saw some huge columns.

Got out and Beer Beer Beer and more Beer (ah yes there was some food at the Dinner Meet which was far too much and excellent). I also had to take part in 2 beer races (1. oldest vs youngest and 2. past president vs future president) 1. I won by lots and 2. I reckon a tie with Julia (!!) and me. After these, people kept on buying me beer! Excellent free beer! Had enough beer and went to bed (late or early depends how you see it!)

Sunday, had breakfast (nice daughter of owner in PJ!)

Now the worst part: Some idiot decided to go up a mountain to see a waterfall and it rained!! Gale force winds which blew us up the mountain and slid back down (no grip on trainers and slipy as f**k) Wanted to get beer in pub which turned out to be a tea house!! With unfriendly owner hence went back to old pub had a pint, got dry and got back to Durham at 5:30!!
