Present: Ian, John

Ian and John went to have a crack at Brown Hill Pot. We bought a tacklesack each in Bernies and set off up the hill. The pot is in a deep shakehole opposite a gate through the wall on the right.

We happily romped through the entrance’s delights of oil drum, crawl, rift traverse and pitch. We passed Galerie pas Mur (impressively tall) and entered the rift, travelling on the obvious ledges. There is a climb down when the rift widens slightly (vertical flake to stand on). Where the passageway route ascends in an obvious manner at ‘The Ramp’, the route to the P-hangers is in an obscure level of the rift. When you reach the foot of ‘the ramp’, take the route immediately below the ramp; this is squeezy in places but bear with it.

Having both descended the main pitch, we opted to leave in the hope of not being late to the dinner. The tacklesacks, though new & inexperienced, were absolute bastards, and increasing exertion made for an interesting trip out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We used a 77m rope for the main pitch and only 0.5m of it touched the floor.

(Trip Quotes: “Oh, I’m sorry.” “No really, that’s fine”; ”Sorry about this John.” “That’s okay”; “Sorry Ian, won’t be long” “Alright John”)
