Present: James, Stacey, George

After a morning of lectures (for me anyway) James and George picked me up in James” shiny new car (christened Barbaraella. Apologies if i’ve spelt her name wrong James). We set of on a second attempt to conquer the legendary caves. After an eventful journey, due to the farmers deciding to remove the entire sheep population from Knock fell down the road we happened to be trying to go up, we got changed in the sunshine (!) we’d previously re-studied the map and decided the entrance was in actual fact on the right of the path. After about half an hour, we found a sink hole with a nice hole in the botton and an iron grating over it. Perhaps the caves did exist afterall!? Further investigation this time proved this to be the hole we were looking for so we rigged the ladder and went in.

The maze system proved to be well worth finding, with lots of grotty muddy crawling for James and lots of really beautiful and unusual-looking formations. (but i forgot my camera). lots of bits were really loose but we all survived. The passages were v.interesting in cross section- sort of like mini juniper gulfs!

After several hours of pottering and squeezing we voted to go out. we got out to find it was freezing and the grass was all sparkly. got changed and went back to the pub we visited on the previous occasion. then took the scenic route back to the A66 because we couldnt get on to it and kept passing over and under it. drove home with v.v.v.muddy gear. Good trip-v.interesting!

Stacey.
