Surprisingly, no-one seemed too hung over after the dinner and drinking the night before (despite the barmaids best efforts to make sure we would be…) and everyone was breakfasted and everything cleaned in good time in the morning. We all made our way to Inglesport for a cup of tea and second breakfast where we made our plans for the day; it was nice to see the whole of the cafe full of DUSA.

After considerable relaxation and faff, the five of us finally set off for Kingsdale in true style; Ian and Andy’s old land/ range rovers.

Andy and Ilya went underground while the rest of us stayed out in the sun. Slowly but surely all the rotten timber made its way to the surface where, where it was stashed in a nearby shakehole till such time as it can be removed completely from the hillside. In the mean time, the sheep remains were buried and the remaining rubbish was bagged up to carry back to the cars.

Hannah and I popped down the first three pitches (just to say we’d been underground that day) before heading back home.

At some point during the afternoon, it was noted that Ilya, sitting by the shakehole with his stripy wellies, looked very much like a garden gnome, sitting by a pond, so photographs were staged of him “fishing for cavers”.

Crescent was good, we finished hauling rubbish up the entrance pitches. With a team of five we had it dusted in a couple of hours. Didn’t even need to go underground myself! Deffo going back ASAP, can’t wait.
